LIMBANG: Community leaders and village chiefs in Batu Danau have added their voices to the chorus of opposition to the setting up of the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) in Sarawak by the federal government.

Bisaya community leader Temenggong Nicholas Buyok Pura said they fear the MPKK would result in confusion among the people, and called on all community leaders to rally behind the Gabungan Parti Sarawak-led government.

“It is important for us to work closely and continue to give total cooperation with our YBs (elected representatives) in order to ensure the development agenda is able to reach the people accordingly,” he said during a meeting with Batu Danau grassroots leaders, here on Saturday.

During the meeting, Nicholas reminded the village chiefs that it was important for them to identify the development needs of the people in their respective area.

“We must stay alert of our surroundings so that we are able to voice out and address the problems faced by the people to the state government.”

Those present at the meeting included Pemanca Jun Silan and Penghulu Ekit Awang.
