Miro points to an area to be developed into Siniawan Waterfront.

BAU: The proposed Siniawan Waterfront project will be tendered out next month, says Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh.

He said the RM10 million project would be completed within 18 months from the date the contract is awarded.

The Siniawan Waterfront would be an added attraction in Bau, and in Kuching at large, not just among the locals but also foreign visitors, he added.

“The waterfront will be about 130 metres long.

“An open space down the river will be turned into an event area – to hold big events like concert, the annual Siniawan Country Music Cowboy Night, and so on.

“It’s going to be like Siniawan Avenue,” he said during a site visit yesterday.

Miro said extra parking spaces would be created along both sides of the old Siniawan Road.

The present public parking spaces are located behind one of the rows of shophouses, which could not accommodate the huge number of visitors’ vehicles during the Cowboy Night.

He said RM500,000 has also been approved to remove the bitumen along the road, and replace it with granite slabs, which will be done by Bau District Council.

“Another RM500,000 has also been approved under the rural transformation programme (RTP) to build the proposed Siniawan Galery. An old abattoir will be demolished to give way for the construction of the galery,” he said.

A public toilet costing RM100,000 had been built within the old bazaar.

“Now, we are looking forward to the implementation and completion of the Siniawan Waterfront, which includes a lookout tower at one end of the waterfront. Visitors can enjoy the scenery along the Sarawak River from the lookout tower,” he said.
