KUCHING: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has been urged to further investigate a bullying case involving three students at a boarding school here.

Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said he took the bullying case seriously because schools were supposed to be the safest place for students.

“I ask the MoE to further investigate the bullying incident in any school and student regardless of age, race, age and religion.

“This is because bullying cases do not only involve physical aspects, but also the emotions of the students who are victims of bullying,” he said.

Dr Yii said this when met by the media during the handing over of assistance to 35 residents in Hun Nam Siang Tng, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations here today.

He added that bullies should also be subjected to appropriate counseling and education to find out why they performed such actions.

“I would like to advise all students in any school that if they are involved in bullying cases, they should be reported to the school.

“We want to help and want to make sure that every student is safe in their school,” he said.

Yesterday, three Form One students at a school in Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang suffered bruises on their body after they were allegedly bashed up by a group of senior students on Sunday morning.

Padawan police chief Superintendent Aidil Bolhassan was quoted as saying that the victim, who was staying at the school dormitory, was allegedly beaten, punched and assaulted by at least 11 older students.

He said the incident unfolded when one of the victims complained to his parents about the trauma of the incident.

Reports about the incident were made by the victim’s family at around 10pm on Monday.

The case is now being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code.
