KUALA LUMPUR: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale occurred near Solomon Islands at 1:02 pm (Malaysian time) today.
According to the statement issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the quake occurred at 100km west from Kirakira, Solomon Islands, at a depth of 49 km.
No tsunami threat to Malaysia. – Bernama
