Covid-19: No new cases reported in Sarawak, total tally at 706

KUCHING (Sept 28): Sarawak recorded zero new Covid-19 cases today, maintaining the total number of positive cases in the state at 706, informed State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah, who is deputy chief minister, said there was one recovery and discharged case recorded today.

“This was the case detected in Sarawak but received treatment at Sg Buloh Hospital. To date, 682 or 96.6 per cent of total cases have recovered and discharged.

“A total of five cases are still being treated at hospital’s isolation wards. Three are treated at Miri Hospital, and one each at Sarawak General Hospital and Bintulu Hospital There is one case, which was reported in Sandakan, Sabah currently receiving treatment at Bintulu Hospital,” he told a press conference Monday.

With three cases reported in Lawas so far, Uggah informed that contact tracing had been carried out leading to a total of 161 individuals traced and screened, and are now awaiting results.

He also informed that the State Health Department had conducted screening at the state’s immigration detention centres in Semuja and Bekenu.

“In Semuja, there are 342 detainees, all whom had been screened and found negative.

“In Bekenu, there are 389 detainees and 53 officers, also tested negative,” he said.

As for Person-Under-Investigation (PUIs), Uggah said there were two new ones for the day, bringing the cumulative total of PUIs to 9,709 to date.

Meanwhile, there are 35 Persons-Under-Surveillance (PUS) who have checked into hotels for their compulsory quarantine Monday. This brings the total of current PUS to 761 individuals at 11 hotels statewide.

To date, those who have completed their quarantine period numbered at 24,638.

With no deaths reported, the state’s death toll remains at 19 or 2.69 per cent of total cases.
