KUCHING: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 28-year-old villager from Kampung Bijuray, Bau, who has been missing since Wednesday (Feb 3), will continue today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said in a statement yesterday that the SAR operation was being conducted within a 2km radius of the victim’s last known location.
Joining the operation were the police, Civil Defence Force, and 11 villagers.
The victim’s brother only filed a missing person’s report at the Bau police headquarters at 8.58am yesterday.
According to the report, the victim went missing after a fishing trip with a friend at a river near the village.
The friend claimed they took a jungle trail home from the river and he did not realise that the victim, who had been walking a distance behind him, had gone missing.
The friend also claimed that he initially thought the victim had gone through the jungle to make his own way home.
The victim was last seen wearing a dark coloured track suit.
It is understood that several villagers had being conducting their own search operation since Wednesday.
