Ministry spent RM10 million for rural devt projects in Lawas

Henry assures that every project would positively impact the people.

LAWAS: Deputy Minister II of Rural Development and Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong says his ministry has spent a total of RM10 million to develop rural areas here last year.

The RM10 million spent in 2020 were for rural roads, village street lights, social amenity projects such as bridge repair and basic facilities.

“The allocation was also used for poor people’s housing projects, sustainable rural programme and income increase programme for entrepreneurs and rural residents.

“These projects implemented will improve the economic status of the rural population, offer employment opportunities as well as ensure the local economy grows,” he added in a statement yesterday.

He assured that his ministry will ensure that every project planning, especially for rural areas would have a positive impact on the people even during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We also want to ensure that the economic cycle of various sectors can be boosted which in turn can generate growth for the country,” he said.

Henry added the fund for rural development in Lawas was from the RM 6.65billion allocation from the federal government for development throughout the country in 2021.

He disclosed that the federal government had allocated RM6.65 billion for rural development for this year  which is an increase of 6.5 percent from last year .
