New Raya Covid-19 cluster claims one life, infects 23 others – SDMC

KUCHING (June 9): A new Hari Raya Aidilfitri Covid-19 community cluster in Sri Aman today claimed a life and infected 23 others, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

Dubbed the Kampung Hilir Lingga Cluster, it involved three localities, Kampung Hilir Lingga, Kampung Masjid Baru Lingga and Taman Pasir Panas.

It spread through social interaction and visiting activities amongst family members in the three localities during the Hari Raya celebration, said SDMC in a statement today.

“A total of 32 people were screened, 23 were positive and nine were negative. One death was linked to this cluster,” said the committee.

All those who tested positive were referred to and admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Sri Aman Hospital and Sri Aman District quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centre (PKRC).

At the same time, SDMC also announced another new cluster dubbed the Kampung Sinar Budi Baru Cluster in Kuching.

The cluster involved three families at the village, and the infection spread via social and close contact among family members.

A total of 38 people were screened with 19 of them tested positive for Covid-19.

All those who tested positive were referred to SGH and Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) and admitted to the SGH and Kuching District PKRC.

At the same time, SDMC also announced the end of the Skim Penempatan Stapok Cluster in Kuching after being free of any new cases in the last 28 days.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported that the state has 76 active clusters, with six recorded a total of 73 new Covid-19 cases today.

On top of the list was the Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri Cluster in Bintulu (54), followed by Muara Tabuan Cluster in Kuching (9), Banting Cluster in Sri Aman (4), Jalan Kampung Yoh Cluster in Sebauh (4), Jalan Jambusan Sunchar Cluster in Bau (1) and Sungai Selangan Cluster in Sarikei (1).
