Two children die after landslide hits house in Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU (July 28): Two children were killed, while two adults were injured after their family home in Taman Elok, Jalan Bukit Nenas here, was hit by a landslide last night.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant director (operations) Misran Bisara said Norain Jaziz, 11, and Isa Sabri, two, were pronounced dead upon arrival at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The two adults, Siti Nur, 28, who suffered a broken arm, and her husband Sabri Botong, 28, who sustained a leg injury, are receiving treatment at the same hospital.

“We received the distress call at 8.26pm and rushed to the scene. The landslide hit the house which was occupied by nine people in a family. Five of them escaped unhurt,” Misran said when contacted.

“The two-year-old victim had been taken to hospital for treatment before firefighters arrived at the scene, two others who were buried managed to be rescued by firefighters and the public.

Misran said the victims were given first aid by Bomba’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) at the scene and then brought to hospital in the EMRS vehicle and an ambulance.

He added 10 firefighters from the Kota Kinabalu fire station and three vehicles, as well as 12 firefighters from the Lintas fire station with two vehicles were involved in the operation.

The rescue operation ended at 10pm. — Bernama
