Next mention of Eric Chang Wei Jie murder case on Sept 9

Ling and Chai wait for their court proceedings.

KUCHING (July 29): The Magistrates’ Court here today set Sept 9 for the next mention of the Eric Chang Wei Jie murder case, as the chemist’s report is still pending.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi allowed the application from prosecuting officer Insp Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin, who represented deputy prosecutor Tan Chuan Yi.

Both accused, Eric’s caregiver Wendy Chai Xue Zhen, 36, and her husband Ling Kok Liang, 51, will be further remanded at the Puncak Borneo Prison while awaiting for the new date.

On March 31, Chai and her husband were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

At that time, no plea was recorded from either accused.

According to the charge, they allegedly murdered the four-year-old between 5pm on March 4 and 9.15am on March 7 at a house in Taman Riverview, Bintawa while under Chai’s care.

Eric was reported missing on March 7.

The search and rescue operation for him began in Bintawa on March 13 and ended at Muara Tebas on March 19.

Neither Chai nor Ling were represented by counsel.
