KUCHING (March 24): The Association of Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders of Malaysia (Pekema) Foundation donated 550 school bags and stationery to students of two primary schools in Kanowit recently.

The ‘Back-to-School’ donation drive to school recipients SK St Francis Xavier and SJK(C) Liang Hua was part of Pekema’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

“This is the first time we chose Kanowit for our CSR programme as we want to give and share with the needy, especially those in the rural areas,” said Pekema Foundation deputy president Tapah Ata in a statement.

Tapah, who is also a political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, said the Back-to-School programme is held throughout Sarawak to benefit students in Santubong, Serian, Semop, Gedong and several other rural areas.

Also present during the handover of donations were SK St Francis Xavier headmistress Roslind John Manggie, SJK(C) Liang Hua headmaster Wong Fung Chuo, Pekema Sarawak committee member Kijan Langgit and Kanowit district deputy education officer Tius Sigi.
