MIRI (May 24): Miri City Council (MCC) enforcement personnel today seized electrical goods placed on the five-foot way of a business premises at Centre Point Commercial Centre, after an earlier warning was ignored.

The council in a statement said among the appliances seized were refrigerators, air coolers, water purifiers, electric water dispensers, ovens and fans.

“Enforcement was carried out due to non-compliance with the local authority’s cleanliness by-law.

“The council had already issued prior warning and compound actions on the owner of the premises who continued to defy instructions,” it said.

MCC said such enforcement will continue to be carried out, and reminded all business owners not to misuse footpaths, parking spaces and public areas by placing their goods there.

This is to ensure Miri city remains clean, safe and orderly, it added.

“It is strictly forbidden to put personal items or commercial goods in public areas. If business owners fail to comply with the existing rules, action to confiscate their goods will be taken,” said the council.
