KUCHING (Oct 18): The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has received four reports of fraud involving supply tenders purporting to be from the department this month.
Bomba Sarawak acting director Tiong Ling Hii said the individuals behind the scam were found offering supply tenders using the names of the department’s director-general and Sarawak director.
“The scammers’ tactic is to directly contact suppliers and present fake letters of acceptance in an attempt to deceive their victims.
“So far, we have not received any reports of financial losses, as all victims took swift action by contacting JBPM (Bomba) to verify the matter,” Tiong said in a statement today.
He revealed that fraudulent supply tenders involving the supply and delivery of vehicle spare parts and accessories for the Simunjan Fire and Rescue Station were sent to two companies here.
A similar fraudulent tender for vehicle parts and accessories for the Saratok Fire and Rescue Station was sent to a company in Sibu.
The latest scam involved a fake tender for the supply of vehicle tires for the Subis Fire and Rescue Station, which was sent to a company in Miri.
Tiong stressed the department takes the cases seriously as they involve the misuse of the department’s name to deceive victims.
He said police reports have been lodged and further action is being taken.
“JBPM Sarawak would like to remind the public to be cautious and not to fall for any supply contract offers, especially those involving quotations or direct procurements using JBPM’s name,” he added.
