KUCHING (Oct 22): More than 1,000 runners took part in the ‘Save Our Forest Charity Run’ at Kuching City South Council (MBKS) on Sunday.
Organised by Kuching Love Book Association in conjunction with its sixth anniversary, with collaboration from MBKS, the event raised RM5,000 each through fundraisers for Kuching Life Care Society and Sarawak Society for the Deaf.
“The run is meant to raise awareness of our forests as these are the habitats for the abundant wildlife, and also blessing of nature.
“We must recognise the importance of forests and take proper measures to tackle the issues of deforestation, and be able to preserve the forests,” said Kuching Love Book Association founder and chairperson May Loo.
The association sponsored a group of 40 children from The Salvation Army, and one of them finished first in the 5km run.
“Kuching Love Book Association would love to congratulate the Top 10 finishers in the Men’s Open and Women’s Open categories, who walked away with prizes totalling RM11,000. Their result timing was good.
“A special mention goes to a 10-year-old girl from SJK Chung Hua No. 5 who managed to secure the 10th position. She’s the top runner in Sarawak’s primary schools section. Very well done Sheryl! We are honoured to have you join us in the run,” said Loo.
Loo also expressed appreciation and gratitude to Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development deputy permanent secretary Dolhadi Mazuki who represented minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, for flagging off the runners and presenting the prizes to them.

Fifty lucky draw prizes worth more than RM20,000 were given away to the winners.
The prizes comprised the grand prize of a motorcycle sponsored by Tay Motors, three folding bikes, four sunglasses, hotel room vouchers, Samsung watch, food and beverage vouchers, cash and also merchandise items from Kuching Love Book Association.
