Lim Ah Ted said that the branch does not wish to see any challengers for the presidency during the upcoming SUPP triennial delegates conference (TDC) cum election, expected to be held next month.
KUCHING (Nov 24): The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Kawa branch hopes that party president and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian will be re-elected to lead the oldest political party in the state for another term.
Branch chairman Lim Ah Ted said that they do not wish to see any challengers for the presidency during the upcoming SUPP triennial delegates conference (TDC) cum election, expected to be held next month.
“Our branch also hopes that Datuk Matthew Chen will continue serving as the party’s central organising secretary, and together with our party president, lead SUPP forward,” he said at a dinner hosted by the SUPP Batu Kawa branch on Friday.
Lim emphasised the importance of maintaining the current leadership during the TDC cum election, given that Sarawak will be calling its next state election in the next two years.
He disclosed that the branch’s TDC held recently had resolved to recommend and support Dr Sim, who is Batu Kawah assemblyman, as the incumbent cum candidate to defend the Batu Kawah constituency.
“Even though we successfully defended the Batu Kawah seat in the last two state polls, we cannot take such success lightly given the increasingly challenging political landscape.
“There is no guarantee that we can win the Batu Kawah seat again, so we must work closely together to make sure that SUPP can deliver in the next state election,” he said.
Regarding the SUPP Batu Kawa branch, Lim said a couple of new faces had been minted as their leaders.
He said he looked forward to these new leaders contributing constructive ideas and enhancing collaborations with their counterparts to better serve the party and the community.
“As the branch chairman, I am more than delighted to see zero disputes and zero infringement of the party’s constitution during our TDC and election.
“This shows that our branch leaders and members place the party’s interest above all, setting aside personal gains for the greater good,” he added.
