KUCHING (Dec 7): Sabah sees Sarawak as a leader in digital economic transformation, said Sabah Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation permanent secretary Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Mohd Kassim.
He said as such, the ministry organised a visit to Sarawak, including the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) headquarters in Kuching, to learn how to fast-track the path towards a digital economy.
“We also want to know how SMA is changing the digital economic landscape and changing the people of Sarawak to be ready to change to digitalisation,” he said in a statement issued by SMA following a courtesy call on Friday.
He said the visit to SMA was the first step taken by the ministry in understanding the digital economic landscape in Sarawak on a deeper level.
“We are impressed by Sarawak’s digital economic ecosystem that is people-centric and we will look at various directions so it will provide great benefits to the people of Sabah,” he said.
Meanwhile, SMA general manager Dato Dr Anderson Tiong said the location of Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo makes both states very strategic to explore the digital economy together.
He said Sarawak has been moving towards the digital economy since Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg took over the leadership of Sarawak.
“We are very fortunate to have a leader who is so far-sighted that he is even the chairman of SMA,” he said.
Also present were Sabah Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation deputy permanent secretary Syahrin Samsir, SMA deputy general manager Dr Suhaili Jaffar and SMA head of digital technology division Hemlet Kiai.
