KUCHING (Dec 7): Sarawak achieved a significant milestone in 2024 by surpassing four million visitors by mid-November and recording over 10 billion ringgit in tourism receipts by October, said Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor.
She said this exceeded pre-pandemic levels, and attributed this success to the media’s invaluable role in sharing Sarawak’s stories with the world.
“Your dedication has allowed the world to experience the warmth of our people, the richness of our culture and the aspirations of our community,” she said in her speech during the STB ‘The Soul of Sarawak’ Media Night 2024 at a hotel here on Friday.
She highlighted Sarawak’s media outreach in 2024 garnered 533 million eyeballs, over 210 million impressions, and RM91 million in PR value — an impressive leap from the previous year’s figures of 313 million eyeballs, 92.2 million impressions, and RM39 million in PR value.
Sharzede also expressed her appreciation for media professionals from Brunei, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Malaysia, commending their dedication and partnership in elevating Sarawak’s global appeal.

Performances showcasing Sarawak’s rich culture liven up the media night.
The media night showcased the best of Sarawak’s cultural diversity with vibrant traditional music, mesmerising dance performances, and an exquisite spread of Sarawakian cuisine.
Guests embraced the theme ‘The Soul of Sarawak’ in a best-dressed contest, displaying outfits that reflected the richness of the state’s heritage.
A lucky draw added excitement to the evening, making it a night to remember.
