KUCHING (Dec 16): Pos Malaysia has been dropping off mail at a trading outlet at Lorong 5, Jalan Stakan instead of delivering it directly to individual properties along Jalan Stakan and Jalan Jamboree, said Michael Kong.

The special assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen highlighted this practice after some concerned residents brought it to his attention.

“This practice forces residents to visit the store to collect their mail, creating unnecessary inconvenience. This situation is unacceptable.

“The essence of mail delivery service is to ensure that correspondence and packages are delivered directly to the intended recipient’s doorstep.

“When residents are compelled to retrieve their mail from a designated drop-off point, it undermines the purpose of a reliable postal service and causes unnecessary disruption to their daily lives,” he said in a statement today.

According to Kong, he had met up with representatives from Pos Malaysia to discuss the matter.

He said assurances were given that the matter would be looked into, that starting next year, each piece of mail would be delivered to the intended recipient’s address accordingly.

He also pledged to continue monitoring the situation and work with Pos Malaysia to ensure that residents in these areas receive the quality of service they deserve.

“It is vital that Pos Malaysia upholds the standards of reliability and convenience that are expected of a national mail carrier,” he said.

Kong further pointed out that private businesses should not be burdened with the responsibility of serving as unofficial mail collection points.

He said the residents of Jalan Stakan and Jalan Jamboree have a right to expect that their mail will be delivered directly to their homes, as practised elsewhere.

“Pos Malaysia must not take the easy way out by offloading their responsibilities onto local businesses and inconveniencing the residents in the process.

“The company should immediately review and rectify this practice, ensuring that mail is delivered to each recipient’s address without fail,” he added.
