Three squatter houses in Kampung Sembulan Tengah were demolished by DBKK.
KOTA KINABALU (Jan 7): Three squatter houses at a water village in Kampung Sembulan Tengah were demolished on Monday.
Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) in a statement said the operation was made due to safety concerns and expired land leases.
The operation was conducted by DBKK officials and other agencies between 9am and 2pm on January 6.
According to the statement, DBKK had given ample time to the occupants to move out before the operation was carried out.
Local authorities had identified several structures in the water village area that were unsafe for occupation and had expired land leases but were rented out to immigrants.
There were no reports of any incidents during the whole operation which went smoothly, the statement added.
Officials from the Sabah Water Department, Lands and Surveys Department, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, the community development leadership unit, and units under DBKK were present to assist.
Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah was also present to observe the operation.
The statement added that the demolition was part of the state’s ongoing exercise on squatter homes.
