SIBU (Jan 24): The 6.75 kilometre road connecting Sibu Jaya and Jalan Kong Yit Khim will be open to the public once the Traffic Management Plan (TMP) is in place, said Datuk Aidel Lariwoo.
The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development said this when asked if the road was already open for public use.
“Some parts are still under repair. Once the TMP is in place, we will open the road for public use,” he told The Borneo Post today.
It was previously reported the new access road project cost about RM104.4 million.
During a site inspection in August 2024, Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas had said the road would be an injection to the economy with multipier effects on economic growth.
The Sibu Jaya-Jalan Kong Yit Khim access road is a dual carriageway road with two river crossings, namely Sungai Salim and Sungai Belalang, and will provide an alternative route from Sibu Jaya to either Durin or Sibu town.
Additionally, it also shortens the travel distance between Sibu town and Sibujaya township.
