KUCHING (Jan 25): Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Betong Zone has proposed incorporating the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report, the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and the Federal Constitution into the national education syllabus.
PBB vice-president Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi emphasised the importance of imparting this knowledge to Malaysian students to deepen their understanding of the country’s formation, as well as Sarawak’s status and rights within Malaysia.
This proposal was among the resolutions adopted during the PBB Betong Zone delegates’ conference held in Betong today.
Julaihi also announced a resolution expressing the zone’s unwavering support for PBB president and Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to continue leading the party.
The PBB Sebuyau branch chairman said this would ensure that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) remains a pillar of political stability and prosperity for the state.
Additionally, the conference resolved to retain deputy premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as PBB deputy presidents.
It also reaffirmed support for Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Sarawak Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom as PBB senior vice-presidents.
“We also proposed that the number of parliamentary constituencies in Sarawak and Sabah be increased to at least 35 per cent of the total number of parliamentary seats in the Dewan Rakyat,” Julaihi added.
Another key resolution called for the establishment of more Sarawak-owned higher learning institutions to drive development in sectors such as renewable energy, oil and gas, aerospace, and satellite technology.
Julaihi suggested sending students and officials for specialist training in these fields to build a skilled workforce.
“At the same time, it shall transform Sarawak into a hub for the energy transition and renewable energy sectors as well as the oil and gas, the aerospace and satellite technology industry in Malaysia and Southeast Asia,” he said.
The conference also urged the state government to enhance telecommunication coverage in areas including Sebuyau, Lingga, Beting Maro, Saribas, Bukit Saban, Layar, Kalaka, Kabong, and Saratok to support connectivity and development in these regions.
