SIBU (Feb 1): A 53-year-old man feared missing after the four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle he was driving was caught and completely submerged in flood waters at Jalan Ling Kai Cheng on Friday night was found safe today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said the man arrived at the Sungai Merah fire station at 11am to make his report.
“He had been driving alone at the time of the incident but managed to escape unharmed,” it said.
Earlier today, Bomba said a distress call was received at 12.12am, and eight firefighters were deployed to the scene.
“When they arrived, they confirmed the self-accident involved a 4WD which was completely submerged in flood waters,” it said.
They attempted a skin dive but due to the depth and darkness of the water, they were unsuccessful. They later requested assistance from the Water Rescue unit before they discovered a backpack containing the victim’s identification documents.
The search and rescue operation was suspended at 2.20am.
