KUCHING (Feb 26): The Madani Community programme will mobilise members to counter fake news as well as improve awareness of safety online, said Fahmi Fadzil.
According to an Information Department report, the Minister of Communications said with the expansion of Akademi Asas Penerangan nationwide, Madani Community members can be given basic training to improve their skills and competency in delivering information accurately and countering fake news.
“We will be mobilising various programmes at the Madani Community level to tackle fake news and increase awareness of online security,” he said during the ‘Sembang Santai’ programme with Madani Community members from Matu and Daro districts at the Parliament complex in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
“At the same time, we will also provide training on Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is an online self-learning programme for the Madani Community members through the National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) to increase their understanding and awareness of AI.”
He said the government is taking full advantage of the use of AI in combating fake news and information through the launch of the Chatbot, Sebenarnya.my, also known as Aifa (Artificial Intelligence Fact-check Assistant).
According to Fahmi, this is an important tool to empower the people with information that has been verified by the authorities and to reduce the negative impact of false information that is spread.
“Verification of information can be done quickly and easily and strengthens the role of Sebenarnya.my in tackling the spread of false information in Malaysia,” he stressed.
Fahmi said he hoped Madani Community members would continue to establish good relationships with Information officers in their respective districts because they play an important role and are the voice of the community at the grassroots level.
Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi said the visit of Madani Community members from Matu and Daro districts to Parliament was very meaningful.
He hoped the visit would provide encouragement to them in empowering the objectives of the establishment of the community.
Ahmad Johnie pledged to raise problems and issues affecting the members in Parliament.
The visit involving 20 Madani Community members from Matu and Daro as well as Information Department staff aimed to help them understand and learn more about the system of democracy in Malaysia.
