KUCHING (March 1): Rumpun Silat Sarawak Wilayah Kuching is ramping up efforts to strengthen its silat team in preparation for major competitions, including the Kuching Closed Silat Championship, Sukan Sarawak (Suksar), and Sukan Malaysia (Sukma).
Chairman Abdul Taib Yusup said these initiatives aim to ensure Kuching’s silat athletes can compete at the highest level and mount a strong challenge in these tournaments.
“Systematic training, aligned with tournament standards, is the key to developing athletes who are not only technically skilled but also possess a champion’s mindset,” he said at the closing ceremony of the Jurus Regu & Jurus Wajib Training Programme on Thursday.
The event, organised by Rumpun Silat Sarawak Wilayah Kuching, was held at the Intensive Silat Sports Training Centre in Petra Jaya.
Also present were Rumpun Silat Sarawak vice president I Mohamad Alli Zainuddin and secretary Abas Hamzah Muhd Haneef.
The intensive three-day programme, conducted by Arniedawati Kassim, brought together 65 silat athletes from 20 silat schools across Kuching.
According to Abdul Taib, the programme provided participants with a deeper understanding of training methodologies while equipping them with techniques and strategies based on official silat championship standards.
“In addition to enhancing the skills and performance of future athletes, this programme also aims to empower silat instructors under the umbrella of Rumpun Silat Sarawak,” he said.
As the first of its kind, the programme is expected to serve as a platform for silat development in Sarawak, further strengthening the state’s reputation as a powerhouse in the national silat arena.
