KOTA KINABALU (March 5): Two drug mules were caught with 63.55 kilograms of syabu worth RM3 million in Penampang late last month.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said both suspects, aged 30 and 33, were arrested by the State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) at a parking lot of a supermarket in Penampang around 9pm on Feb 27.
“Acting on a tip-off, police set up surveillance in the area and found two men inside a Toyota Land Cruiser at the parking lot and immediately made the arrests.
“Police found four boxes on the back seat of the vehicle and inspection of the boxes found small packets of crystalline substances believed to be Methamphetamine or syabu with a total weight of 63.55 kg and street price of RM3 million,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters in Kepayan on Wednesday.
Jauteh said police investigation revealed that the drugs were smuggled from Peninsular via couriers and would be smuggled out to neighbouring countries.
“Police investigation also revealed that the suspects have been active for more than a year and acted as drug transporters with a fee of between RM300 to RM500 for a kilogram of drugs,” he said.
Both suspects are currently being remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) until March 7 and the case will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which can carry the death penalty or life imprisonment if convicted.
