KUCHING (March 26): The Sheda Research Institute is planning to set up a knowledge hub to drive the growth of Sarawak’s housing industry through research and innovation.
According to the Premier’s official Facebook page, Sarawakku, the proposal was discussed during a courtesy call by a delegation from the Sarawak Housing and Estate Developers Association (Sheda) on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.
During the meeting, the delegation presented comprehensive plans outlining the institute’s operational framework and strategic objectives.
They also sought Abang Johari’s advice on Sheda’s role in advancing the state’s housing sector.
Leading the delegation was Sheda president Augustine CH Wong, accompanied by key office bearers, including deputy president Louis Ting Tiew Hee, secretary-general Ir John Yong Lock Ping, treasurer-general Steve Tan Chen Hang, as well as past presidents and senior advisors Zaidi Ahmad and Dato Ir Sr Alex KK Ting.
Also in attendance was Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also state Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) reported that the issue of Liquidated Ascertained Damages (LAD) was among the key topics discussed with the Premier.
Sheda vice president Louis Ting told reporters after the meeting that Abang Johari has acknowledged the challenges faced by industry players and will take appropriate steps to address them.
LAD is a financial penalty imposed on developers who fail to complete housing projects within the timeframe stipulated in the sale and purchase agreement.
The clause is designed to protect property buyers by compensating them for delays that could lead to financial burdens.
