SIBU (March 31): Court-appointed liquidator Wong Ching Yong has called for former shareholders and directors of BBT Tower Sdn Bhd as well as lawyers involved in the Sales and Purchase Agreement to provide the company’s financial status and relevant details to resolve issues concerning an abandoned housing project here.
Wong resorted to making this announcement publicly as the company’s former shareholders and directors were not present at the urgent meeting attended by 43 house buyers and creditors, here Saturday.
This, he said, is necessary in order for issues surrounding the abandoned three-phase housing project here to be settled amicably.
“The liquidation of BBT Tower Sdn Bhd involved an abandoned housing project in Sibu. All the AR registered mail, addressed to the former shareholders and directors of the company had been returned.
“Following this, a notice was published in the newspapers on March 4 to inform the shareholders and directors of the said company on today’s contributories and creditors meeting, seeking for their attendance.
“A total of 43 purchasers and creditors (suppliers) attended today’s meeting, but the company’s former shareholders, directors were not present and I have not been able to contact them,” he told reporters when met after the meeting.
“I need the former shareholders and directors to furnish me with all the necessary financial information because as of now, I do not even have a single piece of such information provided to me.”
Wong therefore took the initiative to obtain the ownership details from the Land and Survey Department, as well as the Occupational Permit (OP) details from the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).
“I am very thankful to SMC chairman Clarence Ting for facilitating in the search of the OP issuance” he said.
“As the court appointed liquidator, let me clarify that my intention of calling for their presence is not related to legal consequences but to provide me with all the necessary financial information so that I know how to go about helping the affected house buyers obtain their land titles—it is as simple as that.
“For that, there will be more of such meetings involving the purchasers and creditors in the near future,” he said.
In this regard, Wong appealed for the former shareholders and directors of the said company to contact him at his office’s number on 084-311299.
Phase 1 of the abandoned low-cost housing project involved the construction of 57 units of terrace houses and 33 units for Phase 2, with Phase 3 coming to a halt.
