KUCHING (April 13): Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim hopes the construction of the new access road linking Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa to the current Kuching International Airport (KIA) can be expedited.
He said the road, when completed, will provide an alternative route for those travelling from Samarahan to Kuching, as well as reduce the traffic jam which often occurs in Samarahan during peak hours.
“This project is expected to be completed soon—either this year or next year. But what I was informed by the contractor is that the progress is very good.
“I will be meeting the contractor again to learn more about its latest progress,” he told reporters during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house held at his constituency’s service centre at the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway.
Hamzah also said this project, which costs RM112.9 million, is a federal-funded project meant to improve road connectivity in and out of Samarahan.
According to a news report on March 20, the construction of this road is facing delays pending approval from Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.
The project involves constructing a road alignment that will provide access from Stampin Baru, Kuching to Bukit Berangan, Kota Samarahan. However, it must pass through a critical area near the KIA Runway 25 precision approach.
As of Nov 22, 2024, the progress of the construction was reportedly 82 per cent.
