KUCHING (May 14): Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol has called on government agencies—whether at the federal or state level—to act professionally and serve the people.
In a Facebook post, the second term MP from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) voiced his frustration over the lack of cooperation from government agencies because of the political party he represents.
Mordi said he could no longer contain his frustration after multiple failed attempts to meet the agency responsible for several pressing issues in Mas Gading, including flooding in Jalan Buso and a house in Kampung Apar, Singai, which may collapse at any time due to road construction.
According to him, additional concerns include culverts removed during construction and left unreplaced in Kampung Segong, as well as damaged roads and land sinking in Kampung Sebobok and three other locations along Jalan Stass.
He stressed that these issues require urgent attention—or at the very least, an explanation from the responsible agency. As the elected representative, he said it is his duty to seek answers for the people.
“This (lack of response) always happens when I try to get cooperation from the agencies.
“We wrote emails, we wrote letters, we texted (them) through WhatsApp, we called them. (We) Set the appointments, and then got postponed and then cancelled. Same cycle every time. And worst (of all), some don’t respond at all. Is this the kind of system that you want to see?” he said.
He acknowledged that his post might receive negative reactions, but after much thought, he decided to share his frustrations because he believes the public deserves to know the challenges he faces.
“I remember there’s one time when we tried to make an appointment with this one particular agency, and my staff was told: ‘We are not allowed to cooperate with the Member of Parliament’. At that time, I could still hold on to my feelings. But this time, I really cannot hold on anymore. This is just too much.
“I don’t blame that officer, but the instructions he received (are what) made me angry. We have heard complaints from internal staff/officers who felt bad about not cooperating with my team due instructions from their superiors.
“In such cases, they don’t lose. I don’t lose either. But the (real) losers are the people. (This is) Because the safety, welfare and interests of the people are at stake because of politics,” he said.
As such, he reminded government agencies that their role is to serve the people—not just elected representatives.
“Remember our salaries are paid by the taxpayers’ money. They are the bosses,” he added.
