KUCHING (Aug 15): The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak has the assistance of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to provide portable firefighting pumps, specifically for use in forest fire operations.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Bomba Sarawak director Jamri Masran made the request during a courtesy visit to the Premier at the Satria Pertiwi Complex today.
“For example, we recently faced challenges during a forest fire at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Mukah due to constraints in our pumps,” he told reporters after the meeting.
“We raised this matter with the Premier, and Alhamdulillah (Praise be for Allah), he acknowledged it with an open heart and responded positively, saying ‘God-willing’, he would look into ways to assist us.”
Jamri added that the Premier also expressed concern over Bomba Sarawak’s readiness in tackling fires in high-rise buildings, in line with the state’s rapid development.
During the meeting, the department briefed the Premier on its existing assets and capabilities for such operations.
The discussion also covered manpower strength statewide, the current status of fire stations, and plans for new stations under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
Also present were Bomba Sarawak deputy director Tiong Ling Hii and assistant director Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee.
