BINTULU (May 4): Illegal street racing on the road after Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Bridge has raised serious safety concerns.
Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee said the illegal races endanger not only the participants but also the public.
“I am aware of the concerning issue of illegal street racing occurring along the road after the Tun Taib Mahmud Bridge, which is not only dangerous and against the law but also poses a threat to the public,” he said.
Iskandar said he has contacted Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali regarding the matter and expressed hope that preventive measures and stricter monitoring would be implemented immediately.
He also appealed to youths involved in such activities to stop immediately.
“To the youths involved in these dangerous activities, I advise you to stop immediately and value your lives. Remember your families waiting at home,” he said.
He also expressed openness to engage with representatives of motor clubs interested in organising legal motorsports in the Jepak constituency.
“During last year’s State Legislative Assembly sitting, I had also proposed to the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) for the establishment of a motorsport circuit in Jepak so that the talents of our youths are not wasted on the streets,” he added.
