KUCHING (May 16): Clubs and associations must adhere to proper accounting with regard to receivables from the Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocations disbursed by their elected representatives or any ministry.
In giving this reminder, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said such matters must be updated to members during meetings.
“The members must be updated on the actual utilisation of funds granted by their YBs (elected representatives) or any ministry,” the Balai Ringin assemblyman said in a statement issued by his constituency’s service centre here on Friday.
The cheques for the MRP allocations totalling RM80,000 were presented to the Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak, which received RM30,000; Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Youth Section (RM20,000); Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Kuching branch (RM20,000); Kelab Seni Budaya Anak Sarawak, or Keresa (RM10,000) at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here on Wednesday.
Snowdan added in the statement: “The allocations are meant to provide financial support to these groups in carrying out their annual activities.
“Use these funds wisely, and for their intended purposes.
“The government will give the necessary support based on merit and on due credit.
“However, the clubs or associations may occasionally need to work hard and raise funds at their end and disposal, and not entirely rely on government aid.”
After the presentation of cheques, Snowdan hosted a study tour at the DUN for representatives of the SDNU Youth, SIDS Kuching and Keresa.
