SIBU (May 23): The Sarawakku Sayang 2026 programme in Bintulu entered its second day today with hundreds of residents taking part in a brisk walk from Tanjung Batu to the Bintulu Astronomy Centre.
Participants reportedly began gathering as early as 7am to welcome the arrival of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Tanjung Batu, where he received a warm reception from members of the public.
The programme not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also served as a platform to strengthen ties between the state leadership and the community in a friendly and informal setting.
Following the brisk walk, Abang Johari attended a breakfast gathering at Farley Food Court together with other dignitaries.
He also took the opportunity to mingle with members of the public, interacting with visitors and traders at the venue.
During the visit, the Premier witnessed a transaction under the Sarawak Basic Necessities Contribution System (SKAS) involving three recipients, symbolising the state government’s commitment to ensuring welfare initiatives continue to reach those in need.
Also present were State Minister for Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; State Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah; State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai.
