KUCHING (May 31): MagnumCares has reached out to 384 families from six villages across Sarawak in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration.
The corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Magnum 4D Berhad also extended support to 19 charity organisations serving underprivileged families, senior citizens and local communities.
“This Gawai, MagnumCares brought festive cheer to communities in Kuching, Miri, Bintulu and Sibu, marking 16 years of celebrating alongside the Dayak community,” said Magnum in a statement.
Since 2010, MagnumCares has contributed more than RM1.04 million to help bring warmth, comfort and festive cheer to those in need, through ‘angpow’ (money in red packets) distributions, cheque presentations, festive gift packs and delivery of essential household items.
This year, MagnumCares visited villages such as Kampung Sinjok, Rumah Panjang Pasil Mass and Rumah Kudam Sungai Bob, sharing meals, cultural traditions and heartfelt moments with the local families.
“These gatherings not only celebrate the festive season, but also reinforce the importance of preserving Dayak heritage and strengthening community bonds across generations.
“MagnumCares will continue to champion community development, social wellbeing and cultural preservation through partnerships with organisations and stakeholders who share the vision of uplifting communities,” it said.
In line with these efforts, Magnum Foundation’s flagship programme ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ (ICSCN) will soon be introduced in Sarawak.
It covers free eye screenings and distribution of corrective spectacles to underserved students in selected schools.
Last year, the programme screened over 1,600 students nationwide and provided 388 pairs of spectacles to underserved children across Peninsular Malaysia.
Reflecting on this journey, Magnum Group executive director Krian Upatkoon said they had been welcomed not only into communities, but also into their homes and hearts over the past 16 years.
“Each Gawai celebration reminds us that this is more than a programme; it is a meaningful journey that we are honoured to share with the Sarawakian community.
