MIRI (June 21): A simple Father’s Day gesture highlighted the importance of family values as community leaders and volunteers reached out to fathers at Senior Citizen Street and Unity Food Centre here.
State Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting and his service team distributed Father’s Day cakes to fathers as a token of appreciation for their dedication and contributions to their families and the community.
The annual community outreach programme was organised by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Piasau branch with the support of its committee members and Women and Youth sections.
It forms part of the branch’s ongoing efforts to promote family values and strengthen community ties through meaningful engagements held in conjunction with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations.
“We chose to do this on Father’s Day because the occasion carries a deeper message of appreciation, gratitude and recognition for the sacrifices fathers make for their families,” said the Piasau assemblyman.
Describing fathers as the backbone of the family, Ting noted that many quietly shoulder the responsibilities of providing for their loved ones, raising children and ensuring the well-being of their households despite the challenges they face.
He added that community programmes such as this help raise awareness of the importance of family institutions while fostering a culture of love, care and mutual support.
“Strong families are the foundation of a prosperous and harmonious society,” he said, expressing hope that society would continue to uphold family values and work together to create environments where families can thrive and future generations can grow in a supportive community.
