SIBU (June 26): Construction of the Jalan Teku–Pasai Siong, Jalan Kemuyang Package 1 project is progressing ahead of schedule, with the RM76 million road project reaching 25.5 per cent completion.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the 6.17-kilometre project is currently 2.8 percentage points ahead of its scheduled progress.
“We are very happy with the progress of the project. The work has been carried out well and is ahead of schedule,” he told reporters during a site visit.
He expressed confidence that the contractor would complete the project on time, adding that favourable weather conditions had contributed to the steady progress.
A key feature of the project is the construction of a 704-metre elevated road structure across peat soil, designed to improve connectivity in the area.
Uggah said the new road would unlock the development potential of the surrounding areas near Sibu, while providing an alternative access route between Pasai Siong and the town.
“The area has great development potential. It is close to Sibu and has suitable land for future growth. This road will open up new opportunities for development and become a second access route between Sibu and Pasai Siong,” he said.
He added that the area’s relatively favourable soil conditions had also contributed to the smooth implementation of the project.
Uggah said the project’s progress reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to delivering on its development promises for the benefit of the people.
Also present during the visit were Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee and officials from the Public Works Department (JKR) Sibu.
