KOTA KINABALU (July 2): Police have only received one notification for the planned ‘Bangkit Sabahan 2.0’ peaceful assembly scheduled to take place here this Saturday.
However, no notification has been submitted by the organisers of the ‘Gempur Rasuah 3.0’ peaceful assembly, which is also expected to take place on the same day.
Acting Kota Kinabalu police chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Abdul Rahman said police were aware of social media postings regarding both gatherings.
He said organisers are required under the law to submit a notification to the district police chief with jurisdiction over the location prior to holding any public gathering.
“To date, the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters has received one notification for the organisation of the ‘Bangkit Sabahan 2.0’ peaceful assembly.
“As for the ‘Gempur Rasuah 3.0’ peaceful assembly, police have yet to receive any notification from the organisers,” he said in a statement.
Syed Lot reminded organisers that they are responsible for ensuring that all assemblies are conducted peacefully and in compliance with the law.
He said gatherings must not disrupt public order, obstruct traffic flow or compromise public safety.
He also cautioned organisers and participants against making statements or engaging in actions that involve race, religion, or royalty.
“Avoid any form of provocation, incitement, or actions that can threaten public order or national security. The police will not hesitate to take firm action against any party found committing offences,” he said.
He also advised members of the public not to participate in any assembly that could disrupt traffic or inconvenience road users.
