KUCHING (July 7): Sarawak women play a crucial role in every phase of the state’s development, said State Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
She said women in Sarawak were not only the pillars of the family institution, but also drivers of the economy, community leaders and resilient agents of social change.
“They are also drivers of the economy, community leaders and resilient agents of social change,” she said during the launch of Buku Wanita Sarawak 2026 – Sarawak Women in Digital Economy at Pustaka Negeri here.
Fatimah said the annual publication served as a tribute to the contributions of Sarawak women while providing a valuable repository of their achievements and success stories.
“It provides an official reference for researchers, educational institutions, development agencies, and guidance for future generations. History that is not written will be forgotten, and contributions that are not documented will eventually fade with time.
“Throughout this documentation journey, we have recorded the achievements of women in politics, volunteerism, the arts, sports, healthcare, public safety, academic writing, as well as business, innovation, and technology,” she said.
She said her ministry remained committed to elevating women’s development and achievements from traditional sectors into the digital economy.
“We want to ensure that Sarawak women are not merely consumers of technology, but emerge as industry players and digital leaders who fully support the vision of a developed Sarawak by 2030,” she said.
Fatimah said this year’s edition featured 23 outstanding Sarawak women from diverse backgrounds, including academia, research, public administration, business, digital marketing, artificial intelligence (AI) training, and corporate systems and application development.
She also announced that the Sarawak Women’s Day 2026 (HW26) celebration would feature the presentation of the Anugerah Tokoh Wanita Sarawak across seven categories at Pullman Kuching on Aug 2.
The seven awards are the Anugerah Datuk Patinggi Laila Taib, Anugerah Premier Sarawak Kepimpinan Wanita, Anugerah Premier Sarawak Usahawan Wanita, Anugerah Premier Sarawak Penggiat Sosial Wanita, Anugerah Premier Sarawak NGO Cemerlang, Anugerah Premier Sarawak Pemimpin Muda Wanita, and Anugerah Khas Premier Sarawak – Sarawak Women in Digital Economy.
The celebration will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
