SEBUYAU (July 9): Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) are collaborating to explore potential natural gas resources along a geological belt stretching from Lundu to Balingian.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the collaboration should continue when the resources are eventually commercialised, with both parties sharing the benefits.
“Petros and Petronas are still in discussions. They will both benefit from it and share everything,” he told reporters after officiating at the opening of the Batang Lupar Bridge 1 here.
Abang Johari said geological studies had indicated the presence of natural gas resources beneath western Sarawak, particularly along the belt extending from Lundu to Balingian.
He added that Sarawak was using satellite technology and other advanced exploration methods to identify and map potential gas reserves more accurately.
However, Abang Johari did not disclose the estimated size of the reserves or the timeline for exploration and possible commercialisation.
