MIRI (July 17): Thailand’s Pranai Reankrai and Namon Luangnitikul emerged as the overall champions of the 23rd Sarawak Premier Cup Sarawak International Junior Golf Championship after impressive performances at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club here today.
Pranai dominated the Boys A division from start to finish, carding an even-par 72 in the opening round before following up with a one-under 71 for a two-round total of one-under-par 143.
His victory also earned him the prestigious Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup.
The championship was reduced to 36 holes after the final round was abandoned at about noon due to heavy rain.
Malaysia’s National Junior Development Programme (NJDP) golfer Jarvis Liew Zun Xin finished runner-up on 149, while Sri Lanka’s Kaiyan Jai Algama Bede Johnpillai took third on 152 after edging Sarawak’s NJDP elite golfer Joshua Lim Zhi Xing on countback. Another NJDP player, Anis Dylan Sinno, was fifth on 153.
The Boys Special title went to NJDP’s Mohamad Danish Mohamad Rizal, who compiled a two-round total of 144 (73-71) to secure a convincing nine-shot victory over Brandon Wong Yi, who finished on 153 after countback. Mohamad Rafiq Anugerah Ali was third on 154, with Ammer Aiman Mohd Fauzi taking fourth on the same score.
China’s Zhang Aoran fulfilled his pre-tournament ambition by claiming the Boys B crown with a six-over-par 150. Thailand’s Charles James Anderson finished second on 153, followed by Sri Lanka’s WM Lavidu Sohas Premarathna (155), Mohammad Fahrain Fadzilisham (158) and Umar Thaqif Ahmad Assraf (159).
Thailand added another title through Henry James Anderson, who captured the Boys C championship with a three-round total of 232 (80-77-75), two strokes clear of Che Faidh Amysar Faizul. Salahuddin Azuri Azman placed third on 236, followed by Mohamad Yahya Umar Arif (240) and Syed Mahdi Mahbeer (245).
Namon completed a memorable Thai double by clinching the overall girls’ title after producing rounds of 70, 74 and 72 in the Girls B division for a winning total of 216. Her opening-round two-under-par 70 remained the tournament’s best round by any female competitor.
Choi Quinn-cie finished second in Girls B on 240, while Nurfathya Emylda was third on 243.
The Girls Special honours went to Aarthi Ganesan (240), followed by Siti Nurfarah Fasha Mohd Hassan (241) and Abigail Kedong Pearson (243).
The NJDP contingent completed a clean sweep of the Girls A podium, with Nurlyana Yasmin Ruzkinain winning the title on 219, one stroke ahead of Ngo Yi Belle (220), while Amelia Lee finished third on 222.
China’s Xu Shiman secured the Girls C title with a three-round total of 227 (77-74-76), while Amira Adja Khairunnisa Permadi was runner-up on 239.
In the team competition, Pranai Reankrai, Zhang Aoran and Charles James Anderson combined to deliver the boys’ team title for Thailand, while the NJDP quartet of Ngo Yi Belle, Nurlyana Yasmin Ruzkinain, Adianna Prewa Sim and Bernice Hwang captured the girls’ team championship.
