The solar street lighting project aims to enhance visibility and safety for residents at night.
SIBU (Aug 7): A total of 35 solar-powered street lights are being installed in the West Bank area under the first phase of a Mini Community Infrastructure Project spearheaded by Sibu MP Oscar Ling and the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sibu service team.
Ling said the initiative aimed to improve community facilities and enhance road safety for residents, particularly along roads that previously lacked street lighting.
He said the latest installations involved seven solar street lights along Jalan Hock Chung and another two units along the same road.
Other locations covered under the initiative included Jalan Kwong Ting with three units, Jalan Bukit Igu (three) and Jalan Guong Ming Hilir (five).
“The installations have significantly improved visibility and lighting along these previously dark stretches of road,” he said in a statement.
Ling said the improved lighting had made it easier for motorists, motorcyclists and pedestrians to navigate the roads safely at night.
“Roads that were once poorly lit are now much brighter, allowing road users to see their surroundings and road conditions more clearly at night,” he said.
Ling added that the project reflected ongoing efforts to improve basic infrastructure and create a safer environment for the local community.
