KUCHING (Aug 14): The Mayor’s Walk 2026 has been postponed to a later date due to the current hazy conditions in the city.
In announcing the postponement, the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) said the event was originally scheduled to take place at the MBKS Foyer this Sunday (Aug 16).
“The decision was made in the interest of the health and safety of all participants, volunteers, officials and members of the public, particularly in view of the current air quality.
“The new date for Mayor’s Walk 2026 will be announced in due course,” the council said in a statement on Friday.
MBKS advised participants who have already collected their Mayor’s Walk 2026 T-shirt to keep their T-shirts while the new date is finalised.
“You will be required to wear it during the Mayor’s Walk on the new date.”
The council extended its apologies for any inconvenience caused and thanked all registered participants, sponsors, partners and members of the public for their kind understanding and continued support.
The Mayor’s Walk is an MBKS community programmes aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle among families and friends.
As of 11am on Friday, the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in Kuching was 171, which falls under the ‘unhealthy’ category.
Meanwhile, the Kuching Division Health Office has advised the public to reduce outdoor activities in view of the current poor air quality in the city.
