Strong winds and heavy rain affected several stalls the area.
KUCHING (Aug 15): The Unesco Creative Cities Network (UCCN) Gastronomy Pavilion was affected by heavy rain and strong winds this evening, with several stalls sustaining damage.
However, Kuching South Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the Kuching Food Festival stalls and activities were unaffected and would continue as usual.
“As a precaution and to allow our team to carry out a full inspection, clean-up and necessary repair works, the UCCN Gastronomy Pavilion will be closed on Sunday,” he said in a statement.
Wee said the incidents were reported between about 4.25pm and 5pm, with several areas around the city also affected by the weather.
“Strong winds accompanying the downpour caused several trees to fall and damaged property at several locations.
“Among the incidents reported were fallen trees, roofs blown off houses and canopies damaged after being blown over by strong winds at an event site.
“The heavy rain and strong winds during the period also caused damage to several structures and facilities,” he said.
No casualties or serious injuries were reported.
