KUCHING (Feb 12): The Works Ministry, in collaboration with the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia, JKR Sarawak, JKR Sabah, and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), today launched the Malaysia Public Works Strategic Collaboration Programme 2025 – a high-impact initiative running from Feb 11 to 14 at Damai Lagoon Resort here.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, accompanied by his deputy Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo, Works Ministry secretary-general Dato Seri Azman Ibrahim, JKR Sarawak director Ir Ts Br Gs PMr Dr Cassidy Morris, and other senior leaders from the ministry and relevant agencies.
“The programme serves as a strategic platform to strengthen collaboration among Works Ministry, JKR Malaysia, JKR Sarawak, JKR Sabah, and CIDB in accelerating national infrastructure development more efficiently, sustainably and innovatively.
“With the participation of 140 delegates from various agencies, the programme will focus on critical issues such as project progress, management strategies, innovations in construction, and the adoption of the latest technologies and work methodologies,” said JKR Sarawak in a release.
Through interactive sessions, participants explore improvements in project management, resource optimisation, the application of emerging technologies, and the enhancement of technical workforce competency.
These efforts aim to ensure that infrastructure projects align with the needs of the people and national development objectives.
By leveraging modern technology and enhancing human capital competency, the programme is expected to drive high-impact, sustainable infrastructure development that aligns with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani, paving the way for national progress and public well-being.
The initiative also emphasises strategic project management alignment to harmonise policies and project directions between the Works Ministry and state JKR offices, ensuring effective implementation.
Additionally, the programme focuses on strengthening technical human capital by enhancing professional capabilities in the construction sector through structured training and attachment programmes designed to explore the latest technologies.
Innovation and technology integration are also key components, with an emphasis on adopting advanced approaches such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), construction automation, and modern engineering methodologies to enhance expertise in engineering and construction.
Over the four-day event, various strategic presentations and discussions will take place, including an Executive Talk by the Works Ministry secretary-general and presentations from JKR Malaysia, JKR Sarawak, JKR Sabah, CIDB, CREaTE, and Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP).
The programme also features a Fireside Chat, team-building activities, and site visits to assess project implementation effectiveness.
“With the active participation of industry leaders and experts, this programme is expected to drive a paradigm shift in infrastructure management and development.
“The discussions and resolutions reached will not only strengthen synergy among relevant agencies but also lay a solid foundation for efficient governance, cutting-edge technology adoption, and adherence to international standards in infrastructure projects,” said JKR Sarawak.
“This programme underscores the Works Ministry’s and JKR’s strong commitment to nation-building through high-quality, sustainable, and impactful infrastructure, in line with Malaysia Madani principles, founded on sustainability, prosperity, innovation, respect, confidence and compassion.
“By combining technical expertise, innovation and strategic synergy, the programme is envisioned as a key driver in positioning Malaysia as a developed nation with world-class, competitive and sustainable infrastructure,” it added.
