KUCHING (March 13): The CCEP Poverty Alleviation Foundation is set to expand its emergency relief services in Sarawak by establishing a contact centre in Kuching within the next six months.
To enhance its efforts in the region, the non-governmental charity organisation has appointed Kapitan Dato Lau Sie Lok as an advisor, presenting him with a letter of appointment on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference, CCEP Foundation chief executive officer Yee Poo Yoon said the foundation is dedicated to assisting those in need nationwide, particularly in raising medical funds for emergency patients.
The organisation initially operated in several states across Peninsular Malaysia. But in recent years, it has extended its services to East Malaysia, successfully helping many patients raise the necessary medical expenses, said Yee.
“While Miri has already set up a contact centre to actively carry out services, Kuching currently uses Hearing Concept as an intermediary to provide services.
“As such, we plan to officially set up a contact centre in Kuching in six months’ time,” she said.
In addition to its expansion plans, the foundation donated two vital sign monitors to Lundu Hospital on Tuesday. The donation was received by the hospital’s director Dr Chin Shi How.
“The vital sign monitors at the hospital are no longer functional. The emergency rooms now lack the equipment necessary to save lives and heal the wounded,” Yee said, adding that one vital sign monitor is priced at RM5,200.
She assured that the foundation will continue to support Lundu Hospital, especially in providing urgently needed medical equipment.
Registered on Feb 25, 2022, the CCEP Foundation has actively supported patients in need across all races over the past three years.
As of Jan 1, 2025, the foundation has been granted five years of tax exemption on donations by the Inland Revenue Department of Malaysia, valid until Dec 31, 2029.
Yee expressed hope that this approval would encourage more individuals to contribute and help those in need.
“The foundation mainly helps emergency patients raise funds for medical treatment, but would also help eligible elderly people living alone and students within its capacity.”
