10 new cert, diploma courses in KYS

KOTA KINABALU: Ten new certificate and diploma courses will be introduced in Kolej Yayasan Sabah (KYS) this year to strengthen its position as the college of choice in Sabah.

KYS is currently offering 10 Diploma courses and 14 Certificate Programmes.

Chairman of KYS Board of Directors, Datuk Kamal DE Quadra, said the college is currently accredited as a four-star college by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), and it has been proven that KYS will be able to produce quality human capital for the nation.

“As a higher learning institution, which is fully owned by the Yayasan Sabah Group, KYS will continue to play its role in giving education and training opportunities to the youth. We believe with the collaboration among the other higher learning institutions in Sabah, KYS is on the right track to educate more skilled workers in the future,” said Kamal, in his opening speech at KYS 18th convocation ceremony yesterday.

The event, which was held at the Tun Raffae Auditorium in Menara Tun Mustapha, was graced by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

Musa, in his speech, urged KYS to enhance its ability, especially in programmes implementation and providing better learning infrastructures to accommodate the increasing number of students every semester.

A total of 796 students received their certificates and diplomas at the event yesterday, while the three best students received the Gold Medal Award and Chief Executive Award.

David Lee Poh Chuan, a graduate from the Diploma in Automotive Technology programme, with a CGPA of 3.94 was awarded the Gold Medal Award, while Shaika Shuhda Mohd Aminuddin from the Diploma in Building Construction Technology programme, with a CGPA of 3.70, and Bridget Ann Boisi from the Diploma in Technology Management programme with a CGPA of 3.68, received the Chief Executive Award respectively.

Also present yesterday were Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun, Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Maleh, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan, KYS chief executive officer Dr Dyg Aminah Ali and State Education Director.
