MIRI: Litter washed up on the beach can be a real eyesore.

Thankfully there are environment lovers who take the initiative to do something about it.

The latest beach cleaning campaign at Miri Marina beach on Saturday was organised by Pustaka Miri under the theme ‘Let’s Make Our Beaches Clean & Safe.’

According to the Pustaka Miri librarian Lilian Baun Pulo, they had expected about 200 people to turn up for the event conducted in collaboration with SK Long Sepiling from Tinjar Baram, the Miri

Local Agenda 21 (LA 21) of Miri City Council (MCC), Fajar International College of Miri, Miri Hospital and Dayang Enterprise Sdn Bhd.

“The response was beyond our expectations.

“Some 550 volunteers came forward to make the event a big success.”

They collected a total of 5,256.8kg of litter.

Lilian expressed the hope that more  such events can be held to keep the beach clean and safe for visitors and recreational activities.
