Kayveas disputes claim to bring 200,000 to join MIC

KUALA LUMPUR: People’s Progressive Party (PPP) president Datuk M Kayveas yesterday dispute a claim by the former party youth leader, Senator Datuk T Murugiah, that 200,000 of his supporters in the party would join him in MIC.

“If it is true, I want him to get 200,000 MIC membership forms and fill their names now,” he told reporters after opening the 1Malaysia Carnival organised by the Cheras PPP here yesterday.

Kayveas said that based on his 10-years experience with Murugiah in PPP, Murugiah had only brought in 30 people to join PPP as members.

“It is impossible for him to immediately have 200,000 supporters,” he said in response to Murugiah’s promise to bring 200,000 of his supporters in PPP to join MIC.

Kayveas said Murugiah’s promise would not affect PPP.

“All PPP members have the party membership cards. According to PPP regulations, those who want to leave the party have to return the cards.

“So, we have to receive the 200,000 cards first, only then can we believe him (Murugiah)” he added.

Murugiah, who is Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, joined MIC on Aug 5 after he was expelled from PPP in May last year for going against the party leadership. — Bernama
