Selangor police operate umbrella mobile beat base

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor police is using the ‘umbrella concept’ to show their presence in crime-prone areas as part of an effort to curb and reduce crime rate in the state.

Selangor police chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the umbrella, with the police logo, would serve as mobile beat base at selected locations and would be manned for about four hours before shifting to another area.

“We are adopting this umbrella concept because it does not require high budget for us to station our men in a particular area.”

“It is also easy for us to place our men, at markets, schools and anywhere necessary,” he told reporters.

He believed that the umbrella concept could forge closer relations between the police and the community.  – Bernama

So far, five umbrellas have been distributed in the Subang Jaya district and will be expanded to other districts in stages. — Bernama
