KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court yesterday sentenced a 46-year-old man to seven years jail and fined him RM275,000 in default three years jail for having attempted to bribe a police officer as an inducement not to take action against him for trafficking in drugs.

Judge Rozilah Salleh ordered Yap Tee Ooi of Jenjarum, Selangor, to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest on July 21 last year.

Yap was found guilty of having offered RM54,950 in a sling bag to Chief Insp M Suresh of the Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Department after the police found a quantity of syabu and heroin in his car at the parking lot on the fourth floor of Vista Mutiara, off Jalan Kepong, at 8.15pm on July 15 last year. — Bernama
